Legality of municipality inspections of manufactured homes

MHOAI director questions the legality of local manufactured home inspections

While it is not illegal to conduct inspections of the homes, it is unlawful to impose compliance to any requirements other than the federal standards for these homes.

When MHOAI Director Syd Dresback of Golf Vista Estates in Monee, a manufactured home community, received word that “used” manufactured homes sold in Golf Vista must be inspected and meet the criteria established by the Village of Monee, he sought direction from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).

The last sentence of the IDPH letter to the Village of Monee defines the authority of local inspectors on manufactured homes.
