Violations: Why does it take so long?

Posted by MHOAI Staff on September 5, 2002 in In the Community | 71 Views

Many wonder why it takes the landlord so long to correct violations. Some of the reasons include:

  • Homeowners are afraid to report violations, or do not report violations to the correct authorities.
  • Management tells a homeowner they are responsible for certain upkeep, and not knowing the law, homeowners believe the manager.
  • Loop holes in the laws need to be updated. Home owners get tired of complaining and just give up.
  • Home owners do not always know if the responsible agency has been to the community and then believe their concerns were ignored.

The process of violations can be speeded up when homeowners, MHOAI, and the correct departments work together. Better communication between homeowners, and state and local departments, along with tougher laws that aid officials in enforcing these laws, will speed this process. By working together we can get the changes needed to protect our neighborhoods.
