Manufactured Home Owners
Association of America
(MHOAA)

Did you ever wonder how MHOAI directors keep track of bills, laws and court cases involving other states? One way is through the networking of the national organization, Manufactured Home Owners Association of America (MHOAA). There are about 23 states which have a state organization such as MHOAI. Communication between MHOAI and other state organizations continue thoughout the year and there is an annual MHOAA convention. Illinois hosted the national convention in 2000.

In 2007 the MHOAA national convention took place during September in the state of Minnesota. Representatives from state associations and other interested parties came together once again to discuss legislation passed in their state and difficulties that came with legislation that was not passed. This is a forum where homeowner’s issues regarding rent, leases, resident owned communities and other back door issues are top priorities.

Minnesota’s state homeowners association hosted a well planned and an extremely informative convention in 2007 and we are pleased to announce that they will be hosting again this year. Last year the three day convention included many educational workshops. Examples being; Community Organizing and Leadership, Park Closing and Relocation Compensation, Rent Justification and Legislation, Enforcing Your Rights and Alternative Dispute Resolution, Resident Owned Communities and Financing.

Speakers included Paul Bradley-Director of Resident Owned Communities (ROC USA) and The Meredith Institute. Attorney Carolyn Carter of the National Consumer Law Center spoke on issues which included language for legislation and future laws needed nation-wide.

Terry Nelson has been involved with MHOAA as an area vice-president for about seven years and attends these conventions. Nelson brings back material for the MHOAI board members along with vast information and ideas shared by other states.
